Over the years, I've become fascinated by the way people describe themselves.

Someone might tell me they're organised. Or good with people. Or sensible. Those descriptions are often completely true.

What I'm interested in is whether they're the whole story.

Sometimes an example someone describes as being organised also tells me something about their strategic thinking. Someone who says they're good with people may also be describing leadership, influence or stakeholder management. None of those labels replace the original one. They simply help us build a fuller picture of who someone is and the value they bring.

I've found that's often where clarity begins.

That's why I always start with your life. For me, that's where career decisions make the most sense. The people I work with are usually looking for more than another job. They're looking for work that fits the life they have now and the life they're hoping to build over the next few years.

I discovered coaching while working in learning and development, and later used it throughout my roles in career development and performance management. I was drawn to the conversations, the curiosity and the difference it made when people had the time and space to understand themselves more clearly.

Later, when my own circumstances changed and I became a parent, I found myself asking many of the same questions I now explore with my clients. I wanted work that used my strengths, gave me purpose and fitted around the life I wanted to live. In many ways, I made the same kind of decision I now help my clients make.

I don't think most people need to become someone different. More often, I think they benefit from building a fuller picture of who they already are. That's why you'll often hear me asking questions like, "What else might this be telling us?” or "What else might this be demonstrating?" Those conversations often uncover strengths, patterns and possibilities that were there all along. They simply hadn't been viewed from that angle before.

When your career genuinely fits your life, the effects often ripple far beyond work. That's what I'm interested in helping people create.

If that sounds like the kind of conversation you're looking for, I'd love to hear from you.
